Just as the national flag is the symbol of Czech statehood, the National Library symbolises Czech culture and education. The project is based on a spatial play, which transforms the two-dimensional flag into a three-dimensional object of the library. Just as the flag consists of three parts, the building is also threefold. These three sections are defined by mass, colour, use of different building materials, as well as by how it operates.
